Introduction

Travel! One of the joys of life. Travel can be a once in a life-time event for some, or a person can be a "frequent flier". Whichever group you fall into, there are many important aspects which need to be in place before you embark on your trip. I fall into the "frequent flier" group and need to travel often for work. I greatly enjoy the opportunity to travel, hence  the title of this Blog (The Passionate Traveller). I still enjoy the excitement of climbing onto a plane and taking off on a new journey. I enjoy the excitement of climbing off the plane in the distant land and getting settled in. I love immersing myself in the culture and different foods in the country or region I am visiting. Normally I try to make the most of the opportunities I get to travel and try to always at least take a few days off to experience the country or area that I am visiting.
In this Blog I will be sharing some of the important steps to take when travelling. I will give you some of the "Dos" and "Don't" of travelling. I will share some of my experiences I have had in different countries, like having a passport stolen in Ecuador! I will talk about the "pros" and "cons" of making use of a travel agent. I will discuss the pros (not really sure if there are any "cons") of joining a frequent flier program with an airline.
I am also a very keen photographer, particularly a wildlife photographer, and I will share some important tips on travel photography and travelling with camera equipment. What to take and what to leave at home?
In this age of technology, there are a few good Apps which are essential to the traveller. Even though I am a BBC person (that is "Born Before Computers") and quite technologically challenged, I make extensive use of the Apps that I have on my phone. I will discuss these in different posts.
I have been very fortunate to have travelled to a number of different counties and have seen and experienced many different and exciting adventures, such as hiking the Inca trail, diving on the Great Barrier Reef (and other even better dive sites) and riding in a canoe in the Amazon basin. I have looked for brown bears in Alaska during the salmon run and have taken a scenic flight around Mt Everest. My bucket list has quite a few ticks on it, but there are still a few places I would like to see and a few things I would still like to do.
My next trip, in January 2018, will hopefully allow me to put a few more ticks on my bucket list. I will be going back to Ecuador and Colombia, and on this trip I will be including a trip to the Galápagos Islands in my travel plans. On my last trip to Ecuador, I managed to get some really good photos of humming birds in the Mindo cloud forest. Unfortunately, only I and the person who stole my camera (along with my passport) will really know how good the photos actually were! I will be going back to the Mindo cloud forest on the upcoming trip and I will hopefully be able to retake these photos. Look out for the upcoming Blogs on my trip to Ecuador and Colombia where I will hopefully be able to post a few Humming bird photos!
